for my father

Since you died I’ve been coming across
things that would interest you.
An article in Scientific American
about language, how it evolved
out of a nameless dark.
A gadget for making coffee
right in your car.
A poet whose lines
ring like cracks through ice
on a pond in March,
as yours do.
An all-Vivaldi concert
this coming Friday.
The list will grow longer.
Meanwhile I keep it
here at my desk, handy
on grief’s tall spindle.
